Ahab is a German doom metal band known for their immersive and thematic compositions that draw heavily from nautical lore. Formed in 2004 in Esslingen, Germany, the group originally consisted of Daniel Droste (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Christian Hector (guitar), and Stephan Adolph (bass, backing vocals). After Adolph's departure, Cornelius Althammer joined as the permanent drummer. Ahab's sound is a complex blend of doom, death, and funeral doom metal, often described as "Nautik Funeral Doom" due to their fascination with oceanic themes. The band has consistently delivered expansive musical narratives, capturing the essence of sea-faring tales through their heavy and atmospheric soundscapes.
