About

Astrobrite is a groundbreaking project that emerged from the solo efforts of Scott Cortez, a visionary in the realms of noise rock, dream pop, slowcore, and shoegaze. Originating in the summer of 1993, Astrobrite began as a bedroom 4-track experiment, evolving into a sonic powerhouse known for its captivating blend of ethereal melodies and intense sonic textures. The project is hallmark of Cortez's ability to craft what he describes as "a lullaby over a jet engine roar," a unique juxtaposition that has set Astrobrite apart in the shoegaze genre.

How to Sound Like Astrobrite

Astrobrite's sound is a mesmerizing interplay of lush, distorted guitars and dreamy, ambient soundscapes. The music often embodies a dense, textural quality, achieved through layered reverb and delay effects. For instance, the use of the Boss DD-5 Digital Delay and Line 6 ToneCore Verbzilla enhances the expansive feel of the compositions, while the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi contributes to the thick, fuzz-laden guitar tones. Cortez's reliance on the dreamy wash of effects and the powerful, droning distortion encapsulates the very essence of shoegaze, creating a soundscape that is both immersive and transcendent.
