About
Badlands was a hard rock band that emerged from the vibrant late '80s music scene, bringing a gritty, blues-infused sound to the glam metal landscape. Formed by Jake E. Lee, a former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, the group also featured Ray Gillen on vocals, Greg Chaisson on bass, and Eric Singer on drums. Badlands distinguished themselves with their earthy, stripped-down approach to hard rock, reminiscent of '70s rock icons like Led Zeppelin. Despite their talent and unique sound, the band struggled to gain widespread popularity in an era dominated by the flashy aesthetics of glam metal.
How to Sound Like BADLANDS
Badlands' sound was characterized by raw, powerful guitar riffs and bluesy undertones, creating a robust and unpolished sonic experience. Jake E. Lee often utilized gear that enhanced this gritty sound, such as the Boss SD-1 Super OverDrive for its warm, saturated tones and the Friedman Small Box 50W 2-Channel Tube Guitar Amp Head to deliver a classic, tube-driven warmth. The band's music was anchored by Chaisson's steady bass lines and Singer’s dynamic drumming, which used the Remo Emperor Coated Drumhead to achieve a punchy, resonant drum sound. Together, these elements crafted a powerful, bluesy hard rock vibe with an authentic and nostalgic edge.
