About
Legs Diamond is an American hard rock band with a flair for glam metal and arena rock, originating in the late 1970s. The group was initially formed when founding members Michael Diamond (bass) and Jeff Poole (drums) relocated from San Francisco to Los Angeles. There, they completed the lineup with Rick Sanford (vocals), Roger Romeo (guitar), and Mike Prince (keyboards/guitar). Known for their energetic sound and theatrical style, Legs Diamond secured a recording contract with Mercury and released their self-titled debut album, followed by A Diamond Is a Hard Rock. Despite sharing stages with major acts like Styx and Kiss, mainstream success eluded them, yet they remain a cult favorite for their passionate and melodic rock compositions.
How to Sound Like Legs Diamond
Legs Diamond's music is characterized by its powerful and melodic guitar riffs, which are often complemented by the vibrant tones of keyboards and strong, rhythmic bass lines. Their sound is bold and lively, with a polished yet gritty edge typical of the hard rock and glam metal genres. The use of guitars with a high-gain setup, possibly through classic tube amplifiers, helps achieve their robust and dynamic tone. Given their era, they likely favored equipment like the B.C. Rich guitars to deliver that distinctive, soaring guitar presence. The drums and bass work together to create a driving, propulsive foundation, allowing the lead vocals to shine with clarity and power. To emulate their style, focus on achieving a balance between aggressive guitar layers and melodic keyboard lines, supported by a tight, punchy rhythm section.
