About
Beach Fossils is a Brooklyn-based indie rock band known for their dreamy blend of indie pop, dream pop, and surf rock. Originally the solo project of Dustin Payseur (vocals, guitar), Beach Fossils evolved into a full-fledged band with the addition of Tommy Davidson (guitar), Jack Doyle Smith (bass), and Anton Hochheim (drums). Their music captures a nostalgic, lo-fi aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the jangly melancholy of the 60s and 70s, combined with the introspective lyrical themes of modern indie rock. Beach Fossils have carved out a unique space in the New York underground scene with albums that reflect on themes of self-discovery and the urban experience.
How to Sound Like Beach Fossils
Beach Fossils craft a melodic and atmospheric soundscape characterized by reverb-drenched guitars and shimmering choruses. Their sonic palette is both lush and ethereal, creating a sense of space that feels both intimate and expansive. A significant element of their sound comes from the use of guitars like the Fender Jazzmaster '62 Reissue, which delivers the bright, jangly tones that are a hallmark of their style. The Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus amplifier further enhances this with its clean, chorus-rich output, while pedals like the Boss CH-1 Super Chorus add layers of depth and texture. Their laid-back rhythm section complements the dreamy guitar work, making for a sound that's as evocative as it is inviting.
