About

Real Estate is an American indie rock band known for their breezy melodies and relaxed, jangly guitar work. Formed in Ridgewood, New Jersey, the group originally comprised Martin Courtney (vocals, guitar), Matthew Mondanile (guitar), Alex Bleeker (bass), and Etienne Duguay (drums). While Duguay departed early on and was replaced by Jackson Pollis (drums), the band's core sound has remained consistent. Their music spans genres such as indie pop, dream pop, and jangle pop, blending surf rock and lo-fi influences to create a sound that's both nostalgic and timeless.

How to Sound Like Real Estate

Real Estate’s sound is characterized by clean, shimmering guitar tones and laid-back rhythms that evoke a sense of sun-drenched nostalgia. Their music often features warm, melodic lines and subtle harmonic interplay, reminiscent of 1960s surf rock but with a modern twist. The band’s use of instruments like the Fender Mustang Electric Guitar and Fender Jazzmaster helps achieve their signature jangle, while effects such as the Moog Minifooger MF Delay and Boss RE-20 Space Echo add depth and a touch of psychedelia. Drums in Real Estate’s tracks maintain a steady, understated groove, supporting the intricate guitar work without overwhelming it, allowing the listener to bask in the band’s mellow, reflective vibe.
