About

Betchadupa is a New Zealand indie rock band that emerged from a serendipitous meeting in 1997 between singer/guitarist Liam Finn and drummer Matt Eccles, both of whom come from musical lineages. The band's lineup is rounded out by Chris Garland on guitar and Joe Bramley on bass. Their music infuses elements of rock and indie, crafting a sound that's both energetic and introspective. Originally forming under the name Lazy Boy, they quickly gained traction in the music scene with their dynamic performances and catchy melodies.

How to Sound Like Betchadupa

Betchadupa’s sound is characterized by its raw, energetic guitar riffs and punchy rhythm section, creating a compelling mix of melodic indie rock with a rock edge. Their sonic landscape is often textured by the use of effects like the ZVEX Fuzz Factory for gritty, distorted tones and the Boss DD-3 Digital Delay to add rhythmic depth and space. The use of a Fender American Professional Telecaster by Liam Finn contributes to their bright and jangly guitar tones, while the Crowther Double Hotcake Overdrive pedal imparts a warm, saturated drive, giving their music both clarity and punch. This combination of gear and technique results in a sound that is rhythmic yet melodic, capturing the vibrant spirit of indie rock.
