About

Blue Mink was a prominent British pop group formed in 1969, known for their vibrant mix of merseybeat and classic UK pop. The band was the brainchild of keyboardist Roger Coulam, who gathered an ensemble of talented session musicians at London's Morgan Studios. The group included Herbie Flowers (bass), Allan Parker (guitar), Barry Morgan (drums), and vocalists Madeline Bell and Roger Cook. Blue Mink's music often carried themes of unity and social harmony, as exemplified by their hit single "Melting Pot," which became a significant part of the UK pop landscape in the early '70s.

How to Sound Like Blue Mink

Blue Mink's sound is characterized by its bright, melodic arrangements and upbeat rhythms, creating a lively and engaging listening experience. Their music often features clean guitar lines that balance well with the robust bass tones produced by Herbie Flowers, famously using a Fender Jazz Bass. The rhythmic foundation is further enriched by the dynamic drumming style of Barry Morgan, utilizing a variety of cymbals like the Paiste 20" Signature Full Crash to add crispness and energy. The vocal interplay between Bell and Cook provides a soulful depth, while the use of joyous, harmonic choruses complements their socially conscious lyrics, delivering a sound that's both entertaining and thought-provoking.
