About
Candlebox is a rock band hailing from Seattle, formed in 1990 by Kevin Martin (vocals, guitar) and Scott Mercado (drums). The lineup was solidified with Peter Klett (lead guitar) and Bardi Martin (bass), creating a sound that bridges the gap between grunge, alternative rock, and post-grunge. Candlebox achieved mainstream success with their debut album, which offered a polished yet powerful take on the grunge movement, blending it with bluesy, classic rock influences. Over the years, the band has evolved, delivering a mix of heavy riffs and melodic hooks that have resonated with audiences worldwide.
How to Sound Like Candlebox
Candlebox's sound is characterized by its dynamic and robust guitar work, often blending grunge-inspired distortion with a more melodic, classic rock sensibility. The guitar tones are both gritty and articulate, achieved through the use of gear like the Roland JC-120 Jazz Chorus for its clean, shimmering sound, and the Soldano Decatone 100-Watt Triple Channel Amp Head for a punchier, more aggressive tone. Effects processors such as the Rocktron Intellifex add depth, combining modulation and ambient textures to create a full-bodied sound. The driving rhythms and anthemic vocals further define their music, making it both emotive and powerful, suitable for both introspective moments and high-energy performances.
