About
Snot was a pioneering force in the fusion of funk rock, alternative metal, and nu metal, originating from Santa Barbara in 1995. The band comprised Lynn Strait (vocals), Mike Doling (guitar), Sonny Mayo (guitar), John Fahnestock (bass), and Jamie Miller (drums). Known for their high-energy performances and raw, unapologetic sound, Snot quickly gained a following in the L.A. scene. Their 1997 album Get Some captured the ferocity and eclecticism of their style, blending punk, metal, and funk influences.
How to Sound Like Snot
Snot's sound is marked by a gritty, aggressive edge that combines the rhythmic punch of funk metal with the relentless drive of alternative and nu metal. Their music thrives on intense, distorted guitar riffs and dynamic drumming, creating a soundscape that is both chaotic and tightly controlled. The use of gear like the PRS Custom 24 adds a versatile tonal range to their compositions, allowing for both searing leads and heavy, chugging rhythms. On drums, Shannon Larkin’s setup, featuring Sabian 14" AA Rock Hats, contributes to the band’s explosive, energetic beats. These elements together craft a visceral and relentless auditory experience, capturing the rebellious spirit and intensity that defined Snot's presence in the metal scene.
