About

Catch 22 is a ska-punk band that emerged from East Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1996. The original lineup featured Tomas Kalnoky (vocals, guitar), Kevin Gunther (trumpet), and Chris Greer (drums), alongside Pat Calpin (bass), Jamie Egan (trombone), and Ryan Eldred (saxophone). Known for their energetic blend of ska, punk, and skate punk, Catch 22 gained a loyal following with their debut album, Keasbey Nights. Despite lineup changes, including Kalnoky's departure and subsequent formation of Streetlight Manifesto, the band continued to evolve with new members like Jeff Davidson (vocals) and Pat Kays (bass), contributing to their dynamic and infectious sound.

How to Sound Like Catch 22

Catch 22's sound is a vibrant fusion characterized by upbeat, catchy horn lines and driving punk rhythms. Their music is both melodic and aggressive, capturing the high-energy essence of ska-punk. The interplay between brass instruments and distorted guitar riffs creates a lively, danceable atmosphere. Guitarists have favored the use of Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier 100W 3-channel Solo Head (Multi-Watt) for its powerful, gritty tone that complements the punchy brass. Paired with a Marshall 1960A 4x12'' Cabinet, the setup delivers the raw, energetic sound that defines Catch 22’s music. The rhythm section, tight and propulsive, maintains the momentum, ensuring that every track is a call to the dance floor.
