About

Celestial Season is a Dutch metal band known for their dynamic evolution from somber doom metal to a groovier stoner rock sound. Formed in 1991, the group originally consisted of Stefan Ruiters (vocals), Robert Ruiters (guitar), Jeroen Haverkamp (guitar), Lucas van Slegtenhorst (bass), and Jason Kohnen (drums). Over time, the lineup has seen changes with notable members such as Cyril Crutz (vocals), Pim van Zanen (guitar), and Olly Smit (guitar/bass). Their music spans genres including doom metal, death-doom metal, stoner rock, and sludge metal, drawing influence from bands like Candlemass and Kyuss. The band has released albums that highlight their versatility, from the doom-laden Forever Scarlet Passion to the stoner-infused Orange.

How to Sound Like Celestial Season

Celestial Season's sound is characterized by its thick, heavy guitar riffs and deep, resonant bass lines, creating a powerful and immersive sonic experience. Their earlier doom metal phase featured slow, melancholic tempos and orchestral elements like violins to add depth and drama. In contrast, their later stoner rock phase embraced a more upbeat, groove-oriented approach, with a focus on fuzzy, distorted guitar tones and dynamic, driving rhythms. To capture their sound, musicians might utilize high-gain tube amps for a rich, overdriven tone, and integrate analog effects pedals such as fuzz and wah to recreate the band's gritty, psychedelic edge. The drums are typically punchy and robust, providing a solid backbone that supports the layers of guitar and bass, while allowing for moments of intricate, melodic interplay.
