About
Dads is an indie emo/punk duo originating from Piscataway, New Jersey, known for their emotionally charged blend of emo, math rock, and alternative punk influences. Formed in 2010, the group consists of Scott Scharinger (guitar, vocals) and John Bradley (drums, vocals). Initially a trio, Dads found their true synergy as a two-member band, crafting a sound that is both intimate and explosive. Their discography includes impactful releases like their full-length debut American Radass and the follow-up album I'll Be the Tornado, which helped cement their reputation in the indie scene.
How to Sound Like Dads
Dads' sound is characterized by dynamic, emotive guitar work and energetic drumming, creating a raw yet melodic atmosphere that fluctuates between aggressive and introspective. Scott Scharinger's use of the Fender American Vintage '62 Jazzmaster contributes to the band's jangly, reverb-drenched guitar tones, while pedals like the Electro-Harmonix Micro POG add a layer of harmonic complexity. The interplay between vintage amplifier warmth and effect-driven textures, such as those from the Strymon El Capistan dTape Echo, allows Dads to oscillate between frenetic punk energy and lush, melodic passages.
