About

Destruction is a pioneering German thrash metal band formed in 1983. The group originally consisted of Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer (vocals, bass), Mike Sifringer (guitar), and Tommy Sandmann (drums). Renowned for their aggressive and fast-paced sound, Destruction is often credited as one of the "big four" of Teutonic thrash metal, alongside Kreator, Sodom, and Tankard. Their music incorporates elements of thrash, death, speed, and groove metal, making them a seminal influence in the metal community. Over the years, Destruction has released numerous genre-defining albums, solidifying their status in the metal scene.

How to Sound Like Destruction

Destruction's sound is characterized by ferocious, high-octane guitar riffs and pummeling rhythms. The band achieves a raw, aggressive tone that is both relentless and precise, often utilizing sharp, biting guitar tones reminiscent of the Gibson Flying V favored by guitarist Mike Sifringer. Their music thrives on fast, intricate picking and powerful, distorted bass lines, as heard in Schmier's use of the Dean V Stealth Bass through an Ampeg SVT-VR amp, adding a thunderous low end to their sound. The drumming, often featuring rapid double-bass patterns and explosive fills, complements the band's intensity, creating a relentless sonic assault that defines their thrash metal legacy.
