About
Tankard is a seminal German thrash metal band originating from Frankfurt, known for their high-energy performances and humorous, beer-themed lyrics. Formed in 1982, the band consists of Andreas "Gerre" Geremia (vocals), Frank Thorwarth (bass), Olaf Zissel (drums), and Andy Gutjahr (guitar). Their music blends elements of thrash metal, speed metal, and crossover thrash, establishing them as part of the "Teutonic Big 4" alongside Kreator, Destruction, and Sodom. Tankard's discography is a testament to their dedication to the genre, with albums that combine intense riffs, rapid tempos, and a sense of humor that has endeared them to fans worldwide.
How to Sound Like Tankard
Tankard's sound is characterized by an aggressive, driving rhythm section and fast, intricate guitar work. Their music is marked by raw, overdriven guitar tones, often achieved with the use of high-gain amplifiers that complement the speed and intensity of their thrash metal roots. Bassist Frank Thorwarth's use of the Fender American Standard Precision Bass, paired with the Tech 21 SansAmp Programmable Bass Driver Direct Input, adds a punchy, defined low-end that cuts through the mix, supporting the relentless drumming and frenetic guitar leads. This combination of gear helps Tankard maintain a sound that is both heavy and clear, allowing their rapid-fire riffs and complex solos to shine through.
