About
Drain STH was an all-female hard rock and heavy metal band originating from Stockholm, Sweden, formed in 1993. The lineup included Maria Sjöholm (vocals), Flavia Canel (guitar), Anna Kjellberg (bass), and Martina Axén (drums, vocals). Known for their blend of industrial rock, nu metal, and influences from bands like Slayer, Drain STH carved a niche with their dark, heavy sound. Their music was characterized by slow, down-tuned guitar riffs and haunting vocal harmonies, drawing comparisons to bands like Alice in Chains. Despite their talent and striking live performances, the band remained a cult favorite within the metal underground.
How to Sound Like Drain STH
Drain STH's sound can be described as heavy, brooding, and atmospheric. They often used down-tuned guitars and gritty, overdriven tones to create a dense, powerful sonic landscape. This was complemented by chilling vocal harmonies that added an eerie, melodic contrast to their aggressive instrumental backdrop. To achieve a similar vibe, musicians might employ high-gain tube amplifiers for a thick, saturated sound, and experiment with chorus and reverb effects to layer the vocals and enhance the atmospheric quality. The rhythm section, featuring robust bass lines and dynamic drumming, added a driving force that grounded their compositions, making tight, punchy drum kits and solid-state bass amps ideal for replicating their impactful backbone.
