About

Ultraspank is an American alt-metal band hailing from California, known for their fusion of alternative metal, industrial metal, rap metal, rap rock, and nu metal. The group originally formed from the remnants of the early '90s speed metal band Indica. Their lineup includes Pete Murray (vocals, programming), Jerry Oliviera (guitars), Neil Godfrey (guitars, programming), Dan Ogden (bass), and James "Fed" Carroll (drums), who replaced original drummer Tyler Clark. After signing with Epic Records in 1996, they rebranded from Spank to Ultraspank, releasing their debut album in 1998 and following it with Progress in 2000. Known for their intense live performances, Ultraspank shared stages with heavyweights like Sevendust, Soulfly, and Korn.

How to Sound Like Ultraspank

Ultraspank's sound is characterized by its aggressive, groove-heavy riffs and industrial textures, blending heavy guitar distortion with electronic programming. The guitars often feature a dense, layered tone, achieved through the use of powerful distortion and effects units. The integration of electronic elements is pivotal, with synthesizers like the Roland JP-8000 adding a futuristic edge to their soundscapes. Rhythmic precision and dynamic shifts define their music, with drums and bass providing a tight, pulsating backbone that complements the dark, melodic vocal delivery. To emulate Ultraspank’s sound, focus on combining heavy guitar tones with industrial synth textures and driving, syncopated rhythms.
