About

Fischer-Z is a British rock band that emerged from the vibrant late 1970s music scene, known for their unique blend of New Wave, rock, and zolo. Formed in 1976 by lead vocalist and guitarist John Watts, the band originally included Steve Skolnik (keyboards), Steve Liddle (drums), and David Graham (bass). Over the years, Fischer-Z’s lineup has seen numerous changes, but Watts has remained the creative driving force behind the band. Their music often combines social commentary with eclectic musical influences, capturing the spirit of the New Wave movement while incorporating elements of German rock and new romantic styles.

How to Sound Like Fischer-Z

Fischer-Z’s sound is characterized by its dynamic and melodically rich compositions, often infused with quirky rhythms and experimental textures. This unique sonic palette is anchored by Watts's expressive vocals and guitar work, which range from jangly riffs to more complex, layered arrangements. The use of vintage equipment, such as the Gibson Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar and the Marshall JMP Superlead 100 Watt amplifier, adds a warm, classic rock edge to their music, while the keyboards provide a textural depth that complements the rhythmic complexity. The combination of these elements creates a sound that is both energetic and introspective, appealing to fans of both traditional rock and more avant-garde styles.
