Generation X was a pioneering English punk rock band formed in London in 1976. Known for melding punk's raw energy with catchy pop sensibilities, the band consisted of Billy Idol (vocals), Tony James (bass), Bob "Derwood" Andrews (guitar), and Mark Laff (drums). Their fusion of pub rock, glam punk, and punk set them apart in the burgeoning London punk scene, with hits that bridged the gap between aggressive punk and mainstream appeal. Generation X released three influential albums before disbanding, leaving a lasting impact on the genre. Billy Idol would later achieve widespread success as a solo artist, and Tony James went on to form the electro-punk outfit Sigue Sigue Sputnik.
