About
Future of the Left is a dynamic post-hardcore and noise rock band hailing from Cardiff, Wales. Emerging in 2005 from the remnants of the influential bands Mclusky and Jarcrew, the group was originally formed by Andrew Falkous (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Jack Egglestone (drums), and Kelson Mathias (bass, vocals). Known for their sharp wit and abrasive sound, Future of the Left crafts music that is both confrontational and darkly humorous, characterized by angular guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and Falkous's biting lyrics. Over the years, the lineup has seen changes, with members like Steven Hodson joining to further enrich their potent blend of noise and post-punk intensity.
How to Sound Like Future of the Left
Future of the Left's sound is defined by a raw, aggressive sonic character, blending biting guitar riffs with propulsive rhythms and a sardonic vocal delivery. Their music is a turbulent mix of distortion and precision, often anchored by the use of Squier Telecaster and Yamaha AES 500 guitars for their gritty, cutting tones. The band frequently employs effects such as the Death By Audio Fuzz War to enhance their fuzz-laden textures, while the Electro-Harmonix Micro Synthesizer adds a layer of synth-like complexity, creating a dense wall of sound. This combination results in a soundscape that is at once chaotic and meticulously crafted, offering a visceral listening experience that is both challenging and exhilarating.
