About
Greenslade was a pioneering English progressive rock band formed in 1972 by keyboardist Dave Greenslade and bassist Tony Reeves, following their work with the band Colosseum. Known for its unique double-keyboard approach, the band also featured Dave Lawson on keyboards, flute, and lead vocals, and Andrew McCulloch on drums, who had previously played with King Crimson. Greenslade's music is an eclectic blend of art rock, symphonic prog, and Krautrock, distinguished by intricate melodies and diverse influences spanning classical, jazz, and rock. Their discography includes acclaimed albums like Greenslade, Bedside Manners Are Extra, and Spyglass Guest, each celebrated for their creative compositions and artful arrangements.
How to Sound Like Greenslade
Greenslade's sound is characterized by its rich, layered keyboard textures and dynamic rhythmic interplay, creating an expansive yet intricate auditory experience. Their music often features the distinctive tones of the Mellotron M400, providing a symphonic backdrop that complements their jazz and blues influences. The interplay between the RMI Electra-piano and Harpsichord (300-Series) and the Hammond A-100 Organ adds depth and complexity, with warm, analog sounds that evoke both nostalgia and innovation. The band's compositions are precise and melodic, with a focus on shorter, structured pieces rather than extended solos, which sets them apart from many of their contemporaries in the progressive rock scene.
