Heatmiser was a rock band formed in the early 1990s in Portland, Oregon, known for their blend of alternative rock, indie rock, and tension-heavy soundscapes. The group comprised Elliott Smith (vocals, guitar), Neil Gust (vocals, guitar), Sam Coomes (bass), and Tony Lash (drums). Elliott Smith's melodic compositions often clashed with Neil Gust's darker, edgier songwriting, creating a dynamic that defined the band's music. Despite a relatively short career, the band released three studio albums and multiple EPs, leaving a lasting impression on the indie rock scene.

Heatmiser's sound was characterized by a raw, emotional intensity and a juxtaposition of melodic and dissonant elements. Their music often featured gritty guitar tones and driving rhythms, with a balance that leaned on both introspective lyrics and aggressive sonic elements. Smith and Gust's guitars were often heard through Fender Deluxe Reverb amps, which provided a crisp yet warm tone, suitable for both clean and overdriven sounds. The use of Hughes & Kettner Tube Rotosphere added a swirling vibrato effect, enhancing the moodiness of their tracks. Coomes' bass lines, paired with Lash's precise drumming, laid a solid foundation, rounding out the band's energetic and emotionally resonant sound.
