The group was formed in 1981 in Bristol, England, by four former members of the band Subway Sect: Rob Marche (guitar), Dave Collard (keyboards), Chris Bostock (bass), and Sean McLusky (drums). They were joined by American expatriate Dig Wayne (vocals), who completed the lineup.
