About
Jockstrap is a London-based musical duo that stands at the cutting edge of art pop and the broader indie music scene. Formed by Georgia Ellery (vocals, violin, songwriting) and Taylor Skye (electronic production), the group emerged from the collaborative environment of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Ellery, who is also a member of Black Country, New Road, combines her ethereal songwriting and gentle vocal delivery with Skye's bold and unpredictable electronic production. Their music blends sophisticated lyrical content with a soundscape that is both enchanting and jarring, offering listeners a unique auditory experience.
How to Sound Like Jockstrap
Jockstrap's sound is a vivid tapestry of contrasts, where delicate melodies meet abrasive electronic textures. The duo's music often features a juxtaposition of Ellery's soothing vocal lines and the lush strings she plays, against the backdrop of Skye's dynamic, often unpredictable production work. This duality creates an immersive listening experience that is both dreamy and dissonant, with a touch of theatrical flair. Instruments like the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Synthesizer and Roland SP-404SX sampler contribute to Skye's intricate soundscapes, while Ellery's use of the Sigma 000MC-15E acoustic guitar enhances the organic elements of their compositions. The result is a sound that feels both meticulously crafted and whimsically spontaneous, inviting musicians to explore the boundaries between harmony and discord.
