About
Kidneythieves is a dynamic duo in the industrial rock scene, known for their edgy and experimental sound. The group was formed by singer/composer Free Dominguez and producer/multi-instrumentalist Bruce M. Somers, combining their talents to create a unique blend of rock, alternative rock, industrial rock, and industrial metal. Emerging with their debut album Trickster in 1998, Kidneythieves quickly established themselves with a distinctive style that merges the visceral energy of rock with the mechanical pulse of industrial music. Their follow-up album, Zerospace, further solidified their reputation for pushing musical boundaries.
How to Sound Like Kidneythieves
Kidneythieves’ sound is characterized by its gritty and aggressive textures, seamlessly combining raw guitar riffs with electronic elements. The interplay between thick, distorted guitar tones and synth-heavy backdrops creates a powerful and immersive sonic experience. Instruments like the Gibson SG Standard and Gibson Les Paul Custom Electric Guitar deliver the punchy, driving force behind their tracks, while synths such as the Moog Minimoog Model D add layers of analog warmth and complexity. The use of electronic effects, including the Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler, helps to create the haunting, atmospheric textures that are a hallmark of their music. The result is a sound that is both industrial and melodic, offering a compelling mix of rhythm and ambiance.
