About
Laid Back is a Danish musical duo known for their distinctive blend of pop, classic Danish pop, and electro-disco. Formed in Copenhagen, the group consists of Tim Stahl (keyboards, vocals) and John Guldberg (guitar, vocals). The pair first collaborated in the 1970s and quickly discovered a unique chemistry that would lead them to create their own signature sound. Their debut album, released in 1981, featured the hit "Maybe I'm Crazy," and they gained international acclaim with the chart-topping single "Sunshine Reggae." Known for their innovative approach to music-making, Laid Back has left a lasting impact on the electronic music scene, particularly with their iconic track "White Horse."
How to Sound Like Laid Back
Laid Back's sound is characterized by smooth, groove-oriented rhythms and catchy, melodic hooks. Their music often features lush synthesizer textures and funk-infused guitar lines, creating a relaxed yet danceable vibe. To emulate their style, musicians can focus on using warm, analog synthesizers for rich, enveloping pads, coupled with clean, chorus-laden guitar tones that add a shimmering quality to the mix. Subtle rhythmic elements and laid-back percussion are key in maintaining the duo's effortless groove. Incorporating simple yet effective bass lines helps anchor the sound, while moderate use of reverb and delay can add depth and space, capturing the essence of Laid Back's timeless electro-disco feel.
