About
The Beloved is an English electronic music group that originated in London, initially formed by Jon Marsh (vocals, keys) and Steve Waddington (guitar). Emerging from the vibrant post-punk scene, they evolved to embrace the sounds of Madchester and indie electronic, especially after a transformative trip to New York City and the burgeoning acid house scene. The group's lineup fluctuated over the years, notably with the departure of early members Tim Havard and Guy Gausden, and later the inclusion of Helena Marsh as co-writer and co-producer. Their music is characterized by infectious club tracks and lush, danceable beats, with hits like "The Sun Rising" and "Sweet Harmony" capturing the optimistic spirit of the late 1980s and early 1990s club culture.
How to Sound Like The Beloved
The Beloved's sound is a rich tapestry of lush, melodic synth lines and rhythmic electronic beats, creating an inviting, danceable atmosphere. Their music often features the warm, analog textures of vintage synthesizers, such as the Roland Juno-60 and Sequential Circuits Prophet VS, which lend a dreamy, ethereal quality to their tracks. The use of the iconic Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer provides a distinctive, punchy beat that underpins their music with a classic electronic groove. This combination of melodic synths and rhythmic beats results in a sound that feels both expansive and inviting, perfect for capturing the euphoric essence of The Beloved's music.
