About

Long Beach Shortbus is an American reggae rock band that emerged from the vibrant Southern California music scene. Formed in 2002, the band originated as a splinter group from the Long Beach Dub Allstars. The lineup features Eric Wilson (bass), RAS-1 (vocals), Trey Pangborn (guitar), and Damion Ramirez (drums). While Wilson, RAS-1, and Pangborn share roots with the Dub Allstars, their music is also heavily influenced by the iconic sound of Sublime, with which Wilson was previously involved. Long Beach Shortbus is celebrated for their unique blend of reggae, ska, and psychedelic rock, creating a sound that feels both familiar and refreshingly innovative.

How to Sound Like Long Beach Shortbus

Long Beach Shortbus's sound is characterized by its dynamic and groovy reggae-infused rock. The music often features crisp, melodic guitar riffs, with Trey Pangborn favoring the versatile tones of a Fender Telecaster or a Gibson Les Paul Custom. These guitars cut through the mix with clarity, supported by the punchy, resonant bass lines of Eric Wilson, often delivered through his Celinder J Bass. The rhythm section, powered by Ramirez's energetic drumming, injects a lively pulse that keeps the music buoyant and engaging. The overall vibe combines clean, rhythmic grooves with an undercurrent of psychedelic textures, making use of ambient effects and solid-state amplifiers to maintain a crisp yet immersive sound.
