Lowertown Members, Gear & Sound

Lowertown is a lo-fi indie duo hailing from New York and Atlanta, composed of Olivia O. (Olive Osby) and Avsha (Avshalom Weinberg). The pair met during their sophomore year of high school and quickly bonded over their mutual love for music. Both were already immersed in writing and recording solo projects, which naturally led them to collaborate and form Lowertown during the summer before their junior year. Their music is characterized by a do-it-yourself ethos, as they write, record, and produce their work, often in Avsha's basement.

Lowertown's sound is marked by its intimate, lo-fi aesthetics, blending melancholic melodies with raw, unpolished textures. Their music often features the sparse, clean tones of a Fender Telecaster, which Olivia O. utilizes to craft the duo's understated yet emotive guitar lines. This is complemented by the use of a Boss ME-80 Guitar Multiple Effects, allowing for a rich palette of effects that add depth without overwhelming their stripped-back arrangements. This minimalist approach, combined with their emotive lyrics and DIY production style, creates an authentic and relatable sonic atmosphere, capturing the essence of modern indie melancholia.
