Formed in 1997, the band consists of Ana María Tijoux (vocals), Cristian Bórquez (Seo2, vocals), Gastón Gabarró (Cenzi, producer), and Jean Paul Hourton (DJ Squat, DJ/producer). They blend genres like Latin hip hop, Nueva canción, and Latin rock to create socially conscious music that addresses political and cultural themes. How to Sound Like Makiza

Makiza's sound is characterized by rhythmic, lyrical flows layered over organic, Latin-influenced beats. Their production often features a fusion of traditional Latin instruments with modern hip-hop elements, creating a textured, dynamic sound. Ana Tijoux’s vocals are captured with Shure microphones, like the Shure SM57, ensuring clarity and presence in the mix. The use of condenser and dynamic microphones, such as the Shure Beta 91A, adds warmth and depth, which is crucial for delivering the emotive and powerful messages in their music. The balance between modern beats and authentic Latin rhythms gives Makiza a distinct sound that is both engaging and culturally resonant.
