About

Ocote Soul Sounds is a dynamic musical collaboration that seamlessly blends the vibrant rhythms of Afrobeat and Latin afrobeat into a unique soundscape. The group was formed by the creative partnership of Adrian Quesada (guitar, production), known for his work with Black Pumas and Grupo Fantasma, and Martín Perna (saxophone, flute), a key figure in Antibalas and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. Originating in 2003, their music is a fusion of Latin grooves with the pulsating energy of African beats, creating a genre-defying experience that resonates with fans of world music and beyond.

How to Sound Like Ocote Soul Sounds

Ocote Soul Sounds crafts a warm, rhythmic, and organic sonic palette that is both immersive and invigorating. The use of Fender Custom Shop Telecasters by Adrian Quesada infuses their music with a crisp, articulate tone, while effects like the Strymon Flint add layers of reverb and tremolo, enhancing the music's dynamic range and depth. The Roland Space Echo RE-150 further enriches their sound with its signature analog delay, creating an expansive, echo-laden atmosphere that complements the rhythmic complexity of their compositions. The result is a sound that is both melodic and groove-driven, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its rich, multicultural tapestry.
