About
Operators is a synth-driven indie rock band formed in Montreal in 2014 by Daniel Boeckner (vocals, guitar, synths), known for his work with Wolf Parade and Handsome Furs, Devojka (synths, programming), and Sam Brown (drums), who previously played with Divine Fits and New Bomb Turks. Their music seamlessly blends elements of synth-pop, post-punk, and rock, crafting a sound that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. The band debuted with their EP EP1 and gained further acclaim with albums like Blue Wave and Radiant Dawn, showcasing their penchant for catchy melodies and driving rhythms.
How to Sound Like Operators
Operators' sound is characterized by its energetic blend of synth-laden textures and driving rock rhythms. They create a dynamic and layered sonic atmosphere, often incorporating analog synths and pulsing electronic beats to establish a vibrant, rhythmic undercurrent. Daniel Boeckner's use of the Ernie Ball Music Man St. Vincent Signature guitar, combined with effects like the Fulltone OCD Obsessive Compulsive Drive and Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water, adds a gritty yet melodic edge to their music. The band's soundscape is further enriched by Devojka's intricate synth programming, which weaves through the mix with a futuristic flair, creating an immersive and energetic vibe that invites listeners to both dance and reflect.
