Rare Bird was a British band that emerged from the late '60s progressive rock scene with a unique two-keyboard setup. Formed in October 1969, the original lineup featured Graham Field (organ), Dave Kaffinetti (keyboards), Mark Ashton (drums), and Steve Gould (vocals). Their early work was characterized by the absence of guitars, focusing instead on the interplay between keyboards and Gould's distinctive vocal delivery. Known for their art rock and progressive rock stylings, Rare Bird's sound evolved over the years, incorporating more guitar elements as Gould and new member Andy Curtis began contributing guitar work. Despite lineup changes and evolving musical directions, Rare Bird is perhaps best remembered for their minor radio hit "Sympathy" and albums like As Your Mind Flies By and Epic Forest.
