About

Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs were an American rock band known for their lively blend of folk rock, bubblegum pop, classic garage rock, and rock-and-roll. Formed in Dallas in the early 1960s, the group was led by Domingo "Sam the Sham" Samudio (vocals, organ), with Ray Stinnet (guitar), David Martin (bass), Butch Gibson (saxophone), and Jerry Patterson (drums) completing the lineup. They gained fame with their 1965 hit "Wooly Bully," which introduced Tex-Mex rhythms to the rock mainstream. Despite achieving a measure of success, Sam the Sham & The Pharaohs were often categorized as a novelty act due to their playful, narrative-driven songs like "Li'l Red Riding Hood."
