About

SBB is a pioneering Polish musical group known for their fusion of rock, blues rock, progressive rock, krautrock, jazz rock, and symphonic prog. Originating in 1971, the band was formed by multi-instrumentalist Józef Skrzek (vocals, bass, and keyboards), virtuoso guitarist Apostolis Anthimos, and drummer Jerzy Piotrowski. SBB, an acronym for "Silesian Blues Band," quickly gained recognition for their innovative compositions and dynamic performances, blending intricate instrumental sections with powerful lyrical themes.

How to Sound Like SBB

SBB’s sound is characterized by complex, layered arrangements and a sophisticated blend of melodic and rhythmic elements. Józef Skrzek's use of the Moog Minimoog Model D and the Moog Polymoog Synthesizer 203a adds a lush, analog warmth to their sonic palette, creating expansive soundscapes that are both immersive and engaging. The Gibson EDS-1275 Double-Neck Guitar wielded by Apostolis Anthimos enhances their dynamic range, allowing for seamless transitions between rich, harmonic solos and driving, rhythmic riffs. SBB's compositions often incorporate ambient textures and symphonic elements, using effects and synthesizers to craft a sound that is both dreamy and powerful, appealing to fans of progressive and fusion genres alike.
