About

Section 25 is an English musical group originating from Blackpool in 1978, known for their evolution from brooding post-punk to indie-dance and electro influences. Founded by brothers Larry Cassidy (vocals, bass) and Vincent Cassidy (drums), the band also included Paul Wiggin (guitar) in its early lineup. Over the years, the band has navigated a range of genres, including new wave, electro, indietronica, post-punk, and darkwave, establishing themselves as pioneers within the Factory Records label alongside contemporaries like Joy Division.

How to Sound Like Section 25

Section 25's sound is characterized by its dark, atmospheric post-punk roots combined with electronic and synth elements. Their music often features moody, melodic bass lines that drive the rhythm, supported by crisp, precise drumming. Guitars in their compositions oscillate between hauntingly sparse riffs and shimmery, layered textures, crafted through the use of modulation effects and delay pedals. Synthesizers and electronic elements add an industrial and cold wave feel to their sound, often employing analog synths to create dense, textured backgrounds that complement the band's introspective and occasionally danceable grooves. Achieving Section 25’s sound involves balancing minimalist guitar arrangements and rich electronic landscapes to evoke both nostalgia and innovation.
