Simon Dupree & the Big Sound was a multifaceted English band emerging from Portsmouth in 1966, known for their eclectic blend of pop, psychedelic rock, and baroque pop. The group was fronted by Derek Shulman (vocals, saxophone), alongside his brothers Ray Shulman (bass, guitar, violin) and Phil Shulman (sax, trumpet). Their lineup was rounded out by Tony Randell (drums) and Pete O'Flaherty (bass). Despite their dynamic stage presence and initial success on the club circuit, the band only truly broke through with their hit single "Kites," which showcased their penchant for mixing genres and experimenting with sound.
