About

The Move was a pioneering British rock band formed in the mid-1960s in Birmingham. Initially comprised of Roy Wood (guitar, vocals), Carl Wayne (lead vocals), Trevor Burton (bass, vocals), Ace Kefford (bass, vocals), and Bev Bevan (drums), the lineup saw various changes over the years with notable contributions from Jeff Lynne. Known for their eclectic blend of pop, psychedelic rock, and hard rock, The Move carved a unique niche in the music scene with their energetic performances and innovative compositions. Roy Wood's songwriting, characterized by its Beatlesque pop sensibilities and quirky British humor, became a defining feature of their sound, influencing the evolution of genres like glam rock and power pop.

How to Sound Like The Move

The Move's music is marked by its vibrant and dynamic sonic palette, oscillating between melodic pop and heavier rock elements. Their sound often combines jangly, chiming guitar textures with robust, driving rhythms, creating a soundscape that's both catchy and powerful. Roy Wood's use of the Fender Electric XII 12-String Guitar contributed to the band's rich harmonic layers, while Jeff Lynne's preference for the Gibson ES-335 added a warm, resonant quality to their tunes. Amplification choices, like the Fender Tweed 4x10" Bassman, further shaped their vibrant, full-bodied sound, striking a balance between the raw energy of rock and the more polished sheen of pop, making their music both accessible and groundbreaking.
