About

Siniestro Total is a Spanish rock band formed in Vigo, Galicia, in 1981, widely associated with the country’s early punk rock and new wave movement. The group emerged from a sharp, irreverent underground scene and became known for combining punk energy, rock’n’roll drive, and satirical, often darkly comic lyrics. Across its best-known era, the band centered around Julián Hernández (vocals, guitar) alongside players on guitar, bass, and drums who helped shape their lean, fast, and riff-heavy approach. Their catalog moves between punk rock, garage rock, power pop, and straightforward rock, with an emphasis on wit, attitude, and tight ensemble playing.

How to Sound Like Siniestro Total

To get close to Siniestro Total’s sound, think dry, punchy, and direct rather than expansive or polished. The guitars should be bright, slightly gritty, and rhythm-focused, using crunchy overdrive instead of heavy distortion, with riffs and chord stabs carrying as much weight as lead parts. Bass lines tend to stay firm and propulsive, locking tightly with snappy, no-frills drumming that keeps the songs moving at a brisk pace. Vocals work best with a spoken-sung, biting delivery that puts the lyrics forward instead of burying them in effects. In production terms, aim for minimal ambience, tight arrangements, and a live-band feel—small-room drums, restrained reverb, and clear separation between instruments will get you much closer than anything overly layered or atmospheric.
