About
Skinlab is an American metal band hailing from San Francisco, formed in 1995. The group is known for their intense blend of alternative metal, industrial metal, and nu metal. The original lineup featured Steev Esquivel (bass/vocals) and Mike Roberts (guitar), with the current lineup including Gary Wendt (guitar) and Paul Hopkins (drums). Over the years, Skinlab has undergone several lineup changes, contributing to their dynamic sound evolution. Their debut album, Bound, Gagged and Blindfolded, set the stage for their heavy, riff-driven style, which has continued to resonate with metal fans worldwide.
How to Sound Like Skinlab
Skinlab's sound is characterized by aggressive, ultra-heavy riffing that combines elements of groove and industrial metal, creating a visceral and raw auditory experience. Their sonic palette is dense and gritty, with down-tuned guitars and a powerful rhythmic foundation. To achieve their thunderous sound, guitarist Glen Telford has utilized the LTD ESP Viper-400 Baritone for its extended range and robust tone. The use of the Mesa/Boogie Triple Rectifier 150W Solo Head further amplifies their sound, delivering the crushing distortion and sustain that define their music. Additionally, effects processors like the TC Electronic G-Major help sculpt their industrial edge, adding layers of complexity and depth to their relentless soundscapes.
