About
The Baseball Project is a rock supergroup that brings together members from celebrated bands such as R.E.M., the Dream Syndicate, and the Minus 5, united by a shared passion for baseball. Formed after a serendipitous meeting at a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event, the band consists of Scott McCaughey (vocals, guitar), Steve Wynn (vocals, guitar), Peter Buck (guitar), Mike Mills (bass, vocals), and Linda Pitmon (drums). Their music is an energetic mix of rock, power pop, and jangle pop, often featuring songs centered around the rich narratives and colorful characters of baseball history.
How to Sound Like The Baseball Project
The Baseball Project's sound is characterized by jangly, melodic guitar lines and harmonically rich textures. Their music often features the distinctive chime of Rickenbacker guitars, like the Rickenbacker 360, favored by Peter Buck, which contribute to the band’s vibrant and layered sound. The dynamic interplay between guitars and vocals offers a blend of crisp clarity and robust depth, enhanced by the use of distortion and modulation effects such as the Reuss RF-02 Repeater Fuzz mk II used by Steve Wynn. The rhythmic foundation provided by Linda Pitmon’s tight, driving drum patterns complements the melodic elements, creating a sound that is both infectious and richly detailed.
