About

The Briggs are a punk rock band hailing from Los Angeles, known for their energetic blend of ska punk, skate punk, Celtic rock, and folk punk. The group features brothers Joey LaRocca (vocals, guitar) and Jason LaRocca (guitar), alongside Chris X (drums) and Ryan Roberts (bass), who took over from original bassist Duck Matthews. Initially formed as I Decline, the band changed their name to The Briggs and released their first album, Is This What You Believe?, in 2001. Influenced by punk legends like Cock Sparrer and The Clash, The Briggs have carved out a niche performing with acts such as Flogging Molly and The Casualties on tours, including the renowned Vans Warped Tour.

How to Sound Like The Briggs

To capture The Briggs' sound, musicians should focus on creating a raw, energetic sonic palette that combines aggressive punk rhythms with melodic hooks and Celtic influences. Guitar tones are typically driven and gritty, achieved through overdriven tube amps and distortion pedals that provide a punchy yet warm midrange. The band's music often features upbeat, rhythmic strumming and catchy riffs, reflecting their ska and punk roots. Bass lines are driving and prominent, locking in with the tight, fast-paced drumming that propels their high-energy performances. Incorporating elements of folk and Celtic rock can add a unique flavor, using acoustic guitar passages or traditional instrumentation sparingly to enrich the punk foundation. The overall vibe is both raw and anthemic, demanding a dynamic approach to arrangement and performance.
