About
The Darkness is a flamboyant English rock band known for their high-energy performances and revival of glam metal and glam rock styles. Formed in 2000 in Lowestoft, Suffolk, the group consists of Justin Hawkins (vocals, guitar), his brother Dan Hawkins (guitar), Frankie Poullain (bass), and Rufus Tiger Taylor (drums). Their music is a vibrant blend of rock, pop rock, hard rock, and glam metal, characterized by theatrical elements and a sense of humor. The Darkness gained international fame with their debut album Permission to Land, which includes the hit single "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," solidifying their place in the rock landscape.
How to Sound Like The Darkness
The Darkness crafts a bold and electrifying sonic experience, characterized by soaring vocals and powerful guitar riffs. Their sound is both melodic and aggressive, with a glam-infused edge that combines the gritty allure of classic rock with the flamboyance of glam metal. Justin Hawkins frequently utilizes the Marshall Superlead Guitar Amplifier Head to achieve a raw, high-gain sound reminiscent of rock's golden era. Paired with the bright and punchy tones of his Gibson Dark Fire, this creates a dynamic and commanding presence. Dan Hawkins complements this with the warm, overdriven tones from his Mesa/Boogie V-Twin, ensuring a rich, full-bodied guitar sound that drives their energetic performances. The rhythmic backbone, supported by Poullain's bass lines on the Gibson Thunderbird IV, adds depth and groove, making their music both captivating and instantly recognizable.
