About

The Hours is a British rock duo formed in London in 2004, featuring Antony Genn (guitar, vocals) and Martin Slattery (keyboard). Both members have roots in the Britpop scene of the 1990s, with Genn having played in Pulp and toured with Elastica, while Slattery toured with Black Grape. The duo also collaborated with Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros. Known for their anthemic rock sound, The Hours blends elements of alternative rock and post-Britpop, delivering powerful melodies and introspective lyrics.

How to Sound Like The Hours

The Hours' sound is characterized by energetic, anthemic rock elements that combine bold guitar riffs and layered keyboard textures. Their music often features a polished yet dynamic production style, with Genn's guitar work offering a mix of crisp, driving rhythms and soaring melodic lines. The use of keyboard and synth layers by Slattery adds depth, creating a rich harmonic foundation. To emulate their sound, focus on tube amplifiers for a warm, organic tone and consider overdrive and modulation effects to enhance the guitar's presence. Additionally, incorporating dynamic keyboards and atmospheric synth pads can help capture the expansive and emotive quality that defines their music.
