About
The Big Pink is an English musical group renowned for their fusion of electro, indie rock, electronic rock, and shoegaze. Formed in London, the band originally gained prominence with its 2009 debut album, A Brief History of Love, and the chart-topping single “Dominos”. The group was founded by Robbie Furze (vocals, guitar) and Akiko Matsuura (drums), with Charlie Barker later joining as the bassist. Over the years, The Big Pink has become celebrated for their rich, textured soundscapes and poignant lyrical themes, earning accolades such as the Mercury Prize shortlist and NME’s Shockwave Award.
How to Sound Like The Big Pink
The Big Pink's sound is characterized by lush, distorted guitars and atmospheric synths, creating a grand, enveloping sonic landscape. The band often balances the grit of fuzz-heavy guitars, such as those achieved with a Gibson Les Paul Standard, with the ethereal quality of shoegaze. Utilizing pedals like the Death By Audio Interstellar Overdriver Deluxe, they craft a sound that is both immersive and dynamic. The interplay between layered instrumentation and driving rhythms forms a backdrop for Furze's emotive vocals, which are often drenched in reverb, enhancing the expansive feel. This combination of elements results in a sound that is both intense and atmospheric, appealing to fans of both electronic and rock music.
