The Idle Race Members, Gear & Sound

The Idle Race was a pioneering English band from Birmingham, known for their eclectic blend of psychedelic rock, baroque pop, and garage rock. Emerging in the 1960s, the group initially consisted of Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar), Dave Pritchard (guitar), Greg Masters (bass), and Roger Spencer (drums). Their music was characterized by inventive melodies and imaginative arrangements, with Lynne's songwriting prowess laying the groundwork for his future success with The Move and Electric Light Orchestra. Despite limited commercial success, The Idle Race carved out a niche in the pop-psych community with albums like The Birthday Party and their self-titled second release.
