The Music Tapes is an experimental pop project rooted in the anti-folk and lo-fi movements, originating from the fertile creative grounds of the Elephant 6 collective. Spearheaded by multi-instrumentalist Julian Koster, who is best known for his work with Neutral Milk Hotel, the group features an array of eclectic musicians, including Jeremy Barnes, also from Neutral Milk Hotel, and Laura Carter. Known for their imaginative blend of sounds, The Music Tapes infuse elements of experimental pop and laboratorio music to craft a whimsical auditory experience. Their recordings often embrace unconventional methods, such as using vintage recording equipment and integrating both antique and modern instruments.
