About
Circulatory System is an experimental indie pop band that emerged from the renowned Elephant 6 collective, known for its kaleidoscopic approach to music. Hailing from Athens, Georgia, the group was founded by Will Cullen Hart (vocals, guitar, keyboards) after the dissolution of the influential band The Olivia Tremor Control. Other key members include John Fernandes (bass, violin, clarinet) and Nesey Gallons (guitar, keyboards), among others who have come and gone, influencing their eclectic sound. Circulatory System’s music is steeped in neo-psychedelic influences, characterized by swirling soundscapes and a playful approach to composition that resonates with fans of both the avant-garde and traditional pop structures.
How to Sound Like Circulatory System
The sonic character of Circulatory System is a mesmerizing blend of fuzzy, swirling textures and eclectic melodies that transport listeners to a dreamy, psychedelic realm. Their sound is often layered and immersive, with a penchant for analog warmth and lo-fi aesthetics. This is partly achieved through the use of vintage equipment such as the Fostex X-26 Tape Multitracker and the TASCAM Portastudio 424 MKIII, which add a tape-saturated richness to their recordings. The band’s guitar tones, often channeled through a Vox AC15, are both warm and jangly, complementing the intricate layers of sound. Effects like delay and modulation are key, with devices such as the Guyatone MD3 Micro Digital Delay providing the spacious, echo-laden textures that define their ethereal soundscapes.
