About
The Sidekicks are an indie punk band hailing from suburban Cleveland, Ohio, known for their evolving sound that bridges indie punk, alternative emo, orgcore, and bubblegrunge. Formed in 2003, the group originally consisted of Steve Ciolek (vocals, guitar), Matt Climer (drums), Brandon "Petey" Petrick (guitar), and Josh Henry (bass). Over the years, they have become a staple in the Midwestern music scene, transitioning from the fiery punk of their early days to incorporating more expansive pop influences in their later work. Their journey took them from local DIY gigs to signing with prominent labels like Epitaph Records, showcasing their growth and adaptability.
How to Sound Like The Sidekicks
The Sidekicks' sound is characterized by a dynamic blend of melodic and rhythmic elements, capturing a raw yet polished vibe that resonates with both punk and indie rock audiences. Their music often features crisp, overdriven guitar tones achieved through equipment like the Gibson Les Paul Special Double-Cut Electric Guitar and expressive effects such as the Electro-Harmonix Memory Toy for delay and the Boss TR-2 Tremolo, adding depth and texture. The punchy, rhythmic drive of their tracks is further supported by tight drumming and robust bass lines, which, combined with their harmonic vocal lines, create an engaging and energetic listening experience. The Sidekicks balance grit and melody, making their sound both accessible and emotionally compelling.
