About
The Willowz is a garage rock band hailing from Anaheim, California, known for its energetic fusion of '60s garage rock, blues-rock, and '70s punk influences. Formed in 2002, the original lineup featured Richie James Follin (vocals, guitar), Jessica Reynoza (bass, vocals), and Alex Nowicki (drums). Over the years, the band has seen various members contribute to their sound, including drummer Loren Humphrey. The Willowz gained attention for their raw and gritty style, characterized by a youthful exuberance and a knack for blending retro influences with a modern edge.
How to Sound Like The Willowz
The Willowz's sound is notably raw and vibrant, with a gritty, punk-infused edge that channels the chaotic energy of early garage rock. Their music often features distorted, overdriven guitar tones that lend an aggressive punch, complemented by the raucous rhythms of bands like The Stooges and The Ramones. A key part of their setup includes the use of Gibson SG Standard and Gibson Les Paul Junior Double-Cutaway guitars, which provide the thick, punchy sound central to their style. Paired with the Magnatone M192-5 Troubadour amp, these elements create a vintage, yet fiercely immediate sonic landscape. The dynamic drumming and driving bass lines further enhance their energetic and rebellious sound, making it ideal for capturing the essence of their garage rock roots.
